The Blood Works For Seasonal Depression TOO!

Because let’s be honest, as progressive as Christianity has become, issues of mental health have still proven to be taboo. The thought of recognizing that one is fighting seasonal depression can be a tight fit for any believer; especially when you’ve built your “brand” around your faith and belief system. Yet here we are, addressing the elephant in the room. Anybody who knows me knows that the fall is my season! As short as it is, I LOVE everything about the fall. From the color of the leaves to the fashion to the cider mill which is truly a must; I shine bright in the fall. Even in all of that, in the past October was a loud reminder that a cloud of darkness loomed over my life for numerous years. Last year I made the conscious decision to reclaim my season! Here are a few tips for us to get the work done together:

  1. You can have Jesus and therapy too! — That’s it, that’s my endorsement. I’m not saying you should sit in any and everybody’s chair but know that Christian counselors are definitely an option.
  2. Confession, confession, CONFESSION!- We all know how I feel about this! Confess your expected result and confess the word of God!
  3. Accountability — When those feelings come, have a plan in place on how to address them and a person you can be accountable to in order to help you get back on track.
  4. Be extra when necessary! — Adorn (Make more beautiful or attractive — Oxford Lexico dictionary) yourself in a way that helps you overcome the moments. It might sound superficial but trust me, it helps!
  5. It’s okay to have a moment, but don’t stay there. — This isn’t my “get over it” statement but more so my “you were created to persevere” reminder. Your feelings are valid, but don’t get comfortable there. Address it, reflect and get back up! In the word of my cousin “Experience your feelings but do not give them a permanent address.”

I confess and believe that this will be an extraordinary season for us! God has given us the tools, strategy, resources and know how to overcome EVERY circumstance. Depression and anxiety are names that have to bow at the feet of the Father and it will NOT conquer us! The book of the Revelation isn’t suppose to be scary but a reminder of how we win through Jesus Christ! In chapter 12, verse 11 and 12, we are reminded how we overcome! Don’t forget, we win! Happy Monday good people!
